self-study: Weblearn--presentation

According to the course plan,we are required to give a presentation next week. In order to prepare well, I learn how to give a presentation through the weblearn today.
After self-study, I would like to give some summaries on presentation.
personal factors:
- If you are the sort of person who is unnerved by speaking in public, then you should remember this: the listeners are on your side.
- maintain eye contact with the audience
- Make sure everyone can hear you, and see any visual material you are using. If in doubt, ask. (The inevitable response to ``Can everyone hear me?'' is ``Pardon?''. This is not altogether a bad thing; people always laugh even though they've heard it before.)
- If appropriate, ask questions of the audience.
- If people in the audience look blank, ask if you need to explain something again. No-one ever says `yes', but people like to be asked.
- The occasional joke can be quite useful, provided it is in context. You should probably not rehearse jokes into your talk, as they will sound contrived.
- Smile
Structure and planning :
- 10% - 20% introduction;
- 60% - 80% main body of talk;
- 10% - 20% conclusion or summary.
timing:
- talk a bit faster;
- miss some material out and skip to the end;
- a combination of both the above.
Preparation:Practice makes perfect!
Computer and video displays :control the sidles by yourself
Visual clich:
- human figures pointing to things on slides;
- text dropping into place or sliding around;
- slides fading into one another;
- slide changes accompanied by a fanfare or other audio effect;
- animated bullet points.
I hope these information can help you!

exercise:mix up the paragraph

What do I have to do after this exercise? I have recognized that Cuong analyses the problem in many aspects which will make the whole topic more interesting. What's more, he has used some academic vocabularies which make the paragraph looks more academic. What I have to do now is to check my whole essay again to use more academic words and phrases. What's more, add some examples to support my argument. Furthermore, check my essay is well-organised and all parts are relevant to the question.
Here is my paragraph:
1. As we know, globalisation has spread its power all over the world. It is proved that globalisation has a significant impact on the economy which enhances the wealth from finance, investment, as well as trade.
2. Some economists argue that the emergence of fast rising and transformed foreign direct investment (FDI) have contributed both developed and developing countries to double-digit economic growth (Sassen, 2000).
3. Multinational corporations have played an important role in these global investments. The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has proclaimed that there is “a dramatic and continues growth of world trade”, which relatives to the growth in global output by multinational corporations in the economic activity (David, 2000).
4. What’s more, with the emergence of the formation of a global economy, new productivity sources, as well as new organizational forms, new information and communication technologies are forced to be created and spread as “the roots of globalisation development” (Manuel, 1998).
5. Furthermore, global ideas and information are spreading through the world, promoting global understanding and tolerance, stimulating the world to enter into a "global culture" (Aharoni, 2008).
6. The culture of globalization pervades our steps to life following simultaneous communication, ideas, information as well as languages through Internet, television, trade and tourism in the process.

my essay plan (new)

Introduction
Globalization has been broadly mentioned in different areas such as economy, politics, culture, environment, etc. It appears that it has transferred the world into a "global village". It is proved that globalization has a significant impact on the economy which enhances the wealth from finance, trade, as well as investment. Furthermore, global ideas and information's spreading through the world promote global understanding and tolerance, stimulating the world to enter into a "global culture" (Aharoni, 2008). Tourism has become one of the largest and fastest growing economic sectors in the world. Due to its continued growth and diversification, the modern tourism has been turned into a "key driver" for socioeconomic progress in globalization (UNWTO, 2008). It would appear that globalization has opened its arms to hold tourism with a deep kiss. The effects of globalization are far from being clear. Can we summarise the main effects of it? How does the globalization "kiss" tourism in today's world? What should tourism do in the age of globalisation? This essay is based on findings from recent research into tourism globalization. The arguments I shall put forward are relevant to the positive effects on tourism economy. I will start by explaining the main effects of globalization in economy, technology, culture and environment, then go on to discuss in which ways do these positive effects of globalization benefit tourism economy. Further arguments are how the tourism could catch the forward pace in the age of globalisation.
Argument
In this part I will start by explaining the main effects of globalisation. I would like to argue the economic effect in finance, investment,as well as trade.Then I would like to discuss the technology effect. Furthermore ,I will put forward to discuss the cultural effect in communication, idea,and information.Last, I will argue the disadvantage effect on environment and poverty.
Counter argument
In this part I will talk about the positive effects of globalisation on the tourism economy.I would like to discuss the general positive effects on the tourism economy. In order to discuss more tourism economic benefits from globalisation, we can put forward to explain the ways in which effects of globalisation benefit the tourism economy.
Conclusion
In the conclusion,I prefer to discuss what should the tourism do in the age of globalisation.

self-study: understanding plagiarism and referencing

- copying words from a book, journal or other source without using quotation marks and giving the author and date;
- referring to ideas from books journals or other sources without mentioning the author and date;
- copying the work of another student or friend/relative;
- working with or getting the help of another student or friend/relative without mentioning this;
- submitting an essay which is merely a collection of summaries or paraphrases of others’ writings;
- commissioning a piece of writing from an outside agency instead of doing it yourself;
inventing references or bibliography entries.
how to avoids plagiarism:
- is informed by the reading, and that information is integrated into my writing;
- is written by myself who has engaged with the reading not merely ‘remembered’ it;
- carries a distinct ‘voice’: that of myself;
- has my personal point of view and perspective running through it;
- is unique: it could only have been written by myself.
Another way of understanding plagiarism and referencing is reading other's reference,paying attention to his way of referencing.I find a reliable book in my subject area and read the reference in the back of book. I find the way to write correct reference.But I need practice.So I try to write my reference of my introduction and check weather I have written right reference or not.To my exciting, I write almost right!
Further more, I try to use Steve's advise--Harvard system of reference(http://libweb.anglia.ac.uk/referencing/harvard.htm). It is a useful tool for me to write right reference!
self-study:conversation club

In this conversation club we talked about the British royal family and prince Harry's racist to Pakistan. There is no royal family in my country now,but I have interests in the British royal family. I know little about this family,what I hear a lot is the news of two princes. In few days ago, all the medias talked about Harry's racist comment referring to his army companion as " our little Paki friend". Is Prince Harry racist? What's your opinion of this news? The British prime minister, Gordon Brown, has said that he will be forgiven by the public for he has made an sincerely apology.In my opinion, I will forgive him as well. I think he is just joking for he is a young boy. He is not mean to discriminate the Pakistanis. Why all the world focus on his careless joke? Just because Harry is living in a British royal family. All our classmates make an agreement to this news. We all argue that Harry should be forgiven.
Later in the class, Sanaz ,Ngoc and I talked about the culture of the cost when a boy invites a girl to have a date in our country. It is more interesting to talk this topic than Harry. Iran's and Vietnam's boy will pay all the bills in the date with a girl,which is totally different from my country. We will pay in A-A(pay for self), the boy have to pay whatever the girl want to buy.T hat is interesting. I admire the Iran's and Vietnam's girls! Haha!

Self-study:Listen to an online lecture(The new rulers of the world)
John Pilger
Proverty in Indonesia:almost one in five
Some notes:
1.In the process of globalisation in Indonesia,the weathers will become more wealthy.
2.Globalisation affects the politics of Indonesia.
3.The money provided from the World Bank to reduce proverty in Indoniesia have been misused or removed by government.
4.The economic global makes most Indonesia people in proverty.
Summary:
John Pilger takes the Indoniesia as an example when explaining globalisation in our world.
In his opinion,in the process of globalisation in Indonesia,the weathers will become more wealthy.Some one will spend large amount of money to organise a luxury wedding,but five miles away,there are millions of people living in proverty.The mutinational corperations earn big share of benefit from globalisation,but on the other side,the workers in these corperations work in worse conditions that badily demage their health.
Globalisation affects the politics of Indonesia.Many counties pay large amount of money to the government to build their army which directly impacts the policy in the developing countries.
In the world of globalisation,money can be move any time or anywhere.IMF's aim is to reduce the provert.They spend a lot of money to Indonesia to develop the education,food,heath.But it has been proved that he money provided from the World Bank have been misused or removed by government.It is said that"at least 20-30% of government of Indonesia development budget funds are diverted through informal payments to government staff&politicians."
The economic global makes most Indonesia people in proverty.As the credit crunch spreads the world,the banks in Indonesia are in the bankrupt situation.This leads the price of food rise up,many people can't afford the high price which cause them in proverty.
Many people against the Trade Organisation and IMF for they make the rich begin more richer,the poor begin more poorer.It is clear that there are more than 10 millions people living in the proverty which has a rising tendency in the furture.
John blames the globalisation which makes the world unhealthy.It should create new rules to improve the globalisation more efficiency.
homework:Global credit crunch

As we know, our current recession began in the USA where banks got into the habit of granting mortgages to lenders unable to pay them back. This created a liquidity crisis in the country which banks and government were unable to resolve, and soon these economic difficulties spread to the rest of the world (BBC News, 2008).
Why does the global finance system seem so weak? It appears that there are no global rules or "safety nets" to govern it (Rodrik,2008) .
In this essay, I will argue that we have to radically assess the 20th Century philosophy of free trade and globalisation due to the failures we've experienced recently in global markets. I will begin by looking at how this philosophy was based on an erroneous logic and then go on to describe the ways in which it has set us back with regard to financial efficiency and growth. I will then go on to discuss the ways in which I think this current crisis will affect future research in my subject area International Banking and Finance.

homework:Steve's lecture
Take some one's buying a house for example.If somebody wants to buy a house in London, he may borrow money from a bank.The bank maybe lend him 50% of the whole money to buy the house.In the global finance,this bank may sell this debt to other banks which may be in China,USA or other countries,and the second bank will sell the debt to another bank in another country.When the financial crisis comes like today we face,this man will can't afford to pay back the money to the bank.In this case,the bank maybe can't pay to another bank in other country.It will affect all other countries that are related.It will lead to bankruptcy.All the banks in different countries will be in a financial mess.In this situation,the government have to come out to help the bank.In this case,the government will lead to bankruptcy,like Iceland.
In Steve's opinion,he complains the globalization.In globalization,everything is free,there is no rule,no regulation.but somebody have to pay for this freedom.Multinational corporations are free in trade.They benefit a lot from globalization,but the worker who work in them have to pay for it.They work hard for a long time but only earn little money.They still in poverty.
what we need to do is to create new philosophy to make globalization more efficiency.
self-study:Write a tutorial summary and action plan
After talking with Steve,I know my reseant situation of my study.My biggest chanllenge is my limited vocabulary in English.I can't understand some words's meaning in class which impacts my understanding of teacher and meterials in class.Steve gives me some ideas to help me with vocabulary:
-How to use gapmaker to improve my subject vocabulary: http://selfstudying.blogspot.com/2008/10/sensitizing-yourself-to-academic.html
-A very good book for general academic vocabulary:
http://selfstudying.blogspot.com/2008/10/question-forms-links.html
I do think they are helpful for me to improve me vocabulary.And I also discover that GUONG's method to improve his vocabulary---make some notes when meeting a new word,check it in a ditionary and write down the meaning.I think it is a good method to remember and use the new words .
furthmore,my writing is also my weakness.I can't master how to write a academic essay.I have to take action to improve my writing.
My action plan is as follow:
1.Prepare a vocabulary notebook,write down the new word(especially the academic vocabulary) ,explain its meaning in my own word after reading the right meaning.
2.Do some excises of vocabulary and writing in the weblearn website.
3.Read some academic essay to learn how to write the academic essay without plagiarism.
4.Reseach some books and websites about globalization and International Tourism Management.

self -study:overview of my subject area(I nternational Tourism Management)
Tourism is "the activities of a person outside his or her usual environment for less than a specified period of time and whose main purpose of travel is other than exercise of an activity remunerated from the place visited."(the International Conference on Travel and Tourism Statistics convened by the World Trade Organization(WTO,in 1991)
Tourism has become a popular global leisure activity. Many countries get the large intake of money for businesses with their goods and services and the opportunity for employment in the service industries associated with tourism.
WTO divides the tourism in five main branches:
Inbound international tourism: visits to a country by nonresidents of a country to other countries
Outbound international tourism: visits by the residents of a country to other countries
Internal tourism: visits by residents of a country with their own country
Domestic tourism: Internal tourism+Inbound international tourism
National tourism: Internal tourism+Outbound international tourism
Today, tourism is at a crossroad. It faces some important issues, such as the increasing concern with the world’s environment, the globalization of tourism, the deregulation and removal of barriers to travel and tourism, the increasing sophistication and expectations of travelers, the creation of new tourism partnerships and new technologies.
As a result of the economic crisis of 2008, international arrivals suffered a strong slowdown beginning in June 2008. Despite of this fact, I believe tourism have quite a bright future. With the advent of e-commerce, tourism products and services will become one of the most traded items on the internet. Technological improvement is likely to make possible transportation and new partnership of tourism welcomed and well satisfied the tourists.
